The Role
Accounting Representative role would require you to follow standard procedures, including a number of different rules and work methods relating to accounting functions. And using some judgment with regards to o the application of appropriate rules and regulations. You will also be required to complete tasks including closing or adjusting entries as instructed. The Person

Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) with headquarters in Ibadan, Nigeria invites applications for the post of Roots and Tuber Systems Agronomist.
IITA is a non-profit organization based in Africa. It works with national entities to increase food production in tropical Africa. Position: The Roots and Tuber Agronomist will work with other agronomists, plant breeders, plant health scientists, social scientists, and other colleagues to develop crop, soil and pest management options for root and tuber systems, with emphasis on cassava and yam based systems. IITA has, in the past, generated several component technologies which when applied in carefully selected combinations and with due consideration to prevailing socioeconomic factors will produce more synergistic and sustained outcomes associated with high cropping system productivity. The Systems Agronomist will provide leadership in synthesizing integrated crop, soil and pest management options with high probability of success in different agro ecological zones in sub-Saharan Africa.

Duty Station: Ibadan, IITA Headquarters, Nigeria. Frequent travel is expected and candidates should be willing to work in small-scale farm settings in Africa.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities for the Agronomist will include:
  • Conducting strategic and adaptive research on the agronomy of root and tuber crops, building on past research and responding to needs as identified jointly with project teams.
  • Investigating nutrient flows, nutrient use efficiency, and beneficial cultural practices in the use of fertilizers in root and tuber systems.
  • Investigating adaptation of root and tuber crop germplasm to target environments.
  • Designing, planning, testing and disseminating integrated crop, soil and pest management strategies for root and tuber systems that address farmers’ needs along different intensification gradients in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Adapting and testing tools (e.g. simulation models, information systems, and GIS) for matching improved technologies to different farmer-targeted niches for root and tuber crop production.

Program Coordination and Management

  • Take full responsibility for managing and coordinating the implementation of country-level portfolio of projects in coordination with STCP Regional Management (RM).
  • Coordinate with STCP RM the prioritisation within the country program and lead the process of establishment of country-level partnerships.
  • Develop and coordinate relationship building with relevant government agencies, and private sector entities towards effective program execution.
  • Take leadership in negotiating the timing and scope of country office involvement in partnership projects/programs.
  • Maintain working relationships with a broad range of officials/heads of donors, national government agencies and civil society for the purpose of influencing positive policy environment.
  • Ensure that the necessary monitoring and evaluation of program interventions are effectively measured, reported and disseminated based on program impact assessment guidelines.
  • Facilitate appropriate country level tree crop sector policy dialogue and change in tandem with STCP regional specialist on policy.

Overall Responsibilities
  • The Zonal Coordinator/Senior Program Officer (SPO) will assist the Project’s Chief of Party (COP) in providing overall coordination of interventions for the Project in the state.
  • The Zonal Coordinator manages all activities within the state and ensures coordination and collaboration with both state agencies and ministers as well as other implementing partners operating within the state.
  • S/he ensures integration of project activities into a single strategic approach at the States, local government, and community levels.
  • He or she assists the COP in providing oversight and technical direction to the Project and collaborates with the COP in the appropriateness and quality of interventions.
  • He or She is responsible for coordinating all project activities in the states under his jurisdiction.
  • S/he will be the driving force in grantee capacity building and grants management and will work closely with the technical advisors to address capacity gaps within the grantees.
  • He will support the M&E specialist with ensuring data about all project activities are collected and submitted to the head office.
  • The Zonal Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that NGOs in the state are mobilized to provide quality services to OVC through adherence to national standards and other approved tools of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Along with the COP, he or she serves as a technical liaison between the State offices, and other donors and stakeholders operating in states within the zone.

Qualifications and Experience

  • The suitable candidate will have a postgraduate degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, or related discipline with at least 3 years’ senior level work experience in health program management in developing countries.
  • The candidate will have proven hands-on programmatic, technical and managerial expertise in provision of at least 4 community HIV/AIDS services and in developing and nurturing partnerships with local NGOs, FBOs and CBOs. Extensive experience working with networks of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) is a MUST.
  • The candidate will demonstrate excellent understanding of the continuum of care for HIV infected individuals and be willing to multi-task for several services.

Background Information
Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is a private, non-profit educational and scientific organization. Since 1971, MSH has worked with its worldwide partners to improve the management of and access to health services such as primary health care, child survival, maternal and child health, family planning, and reproductive health. The following position/s will provide technical Assistance aimed at improving the lives of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in project state. The goal of this project is to deliver is to deliver care and support activities to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) as well as palliative care. Program intervention includes care and support for children affected by HIV/AIDS, paediatric home-base care, gender, stigma and discrimination and program related data collection and analysis.
